I want to know which Pionier units from the Heer take part in the invasion of Crete. Also who commanded them and if one of those officers was a Blutorder holder and was KIA.

Well,
I just received the book Pioniere in Kampf from 1942. It lists all Pi. Offiziere that recevied the RK. I will take a look in it. It does mention Kreta.

Erich, the man I'm looking for was a Blutorder holder, I don't know if he received the RK, only in the back of the photo is identificated as chef of Pi.Batl. 179 during the French campaign, holder of the Blutorder and KIA in Crete.

As far as I´ve been able to check, Gebirgs-Pionier-Battalion 95 was the pioneer force operating in Crete from May 22, commanded by Major Schätte. Kampfgruppe Schätte had to protect the Maleme area from any western threat and push westwards to capture Kastelli. They entered in three days later.
