      Norwegians in the Luftwaffe

      Hi,
Try getting a copy of the book 'In the skies of Europe' by Hans-Werner Neulen (ISBN 1 86126 326 0) which covers various nationalities flying for the Luftwaffe. Neulen lists the following two: Harald Hougen flew with III/KG30, while Alf Lie served with 4./II.Luftwaffe Brigade and saw only ground service although he did train at FFS-Doppelschule A 43/I at Crailsheim prior to the war's end.
      Hope this helps
      Mike

        Norwegians

A relative of mine who served in KG 30, told me that there was at least 2 norwegians serving there. (married to my mothers aunt) He learnt his first Norwegian phrases from one of them.

I will ask him this week if anyone of them were pilots.

            KG 30 at Banak

He was stationed at Banak, Lakselv in Finnmark, from late 1941 to early 1943. That was with KG30. He was then transfered to an other unit.

              Hello!
It is difficult to give a 100% correct answer to how many Norwegian pilots seved in Luftwaffe. Alf Lie, a former "Wiking" member managed to become a operational pilot in the last months of the war, he was stationed at Fornebu, and did fly Ju 52´s. The other mentioned, H. Hougen was a crew member, a bombardier if I remember correctly.
Tor, the ones your relative remembers from KG30 might well have been crew members, not pilots.

A nice site to visit concerning Norway during WW2, is www.nuav.net
