    Identity Unknown? DKiS winner.

I am trying to identify a man who earned the DKiS with the initials A.G

You mean those initials are scratched on back, or something? Because that could have been done by the G.I. who shipped it home, or even by some cretin of a "collector."

The only match I find among the army-air force-navy-Waffen SS recipients was a

Major Alfred Gericke, 9.9.44 in Supply troops ("Nachsch. Tr.") of either Division or Corps "Grossdeutschland." His entry in Horst Scheibert's undated 1980s list of recipients only says "GD" and not WHICH "GD."

Gericke was apparently Major (E) 1.7.41 #45, found in the May 1944 Seniority "S" List as on staff of Wehrmeldeamt Lübeck, Fahrtruppen. The only other Gericke I turn up as alive in May 1944 as a Major was an ex-artilleryman who was in the General Staff.

On the reverse, very nicely engraved in large script type letters
      A G
      In small numbers 21 11 43

Rick, how complete a list is there of persons who were awarded the German Cross in Silver?

I went through the entire list of DKiS winners ( Das Deutsche Kreuz 1941 - 1945: Patzwall/Scherzer ) looking for the date 23.11.43 and I couldn't see an entry with that exact date.

Under the 'G' listings the closest dates to that is:

09.11.43 Geib, Reinhard Oberst i.G. OKH/ GenStdH/Abt. Fremde Heere Ost

Not trying to be funny but are you sure that the DK is a original? Could you post some pics of it?

No, thats what I am trying to determine. As soon as I figure out how to get the image into the post. Today for sure. This thread starts up in Crosses of the Wehrmacht.

There was a new Bender book out last year, I think, on DKiS holders, but I haven't seen one "live" yet at any shows. I know that the 1980s one did NOT catch most of the few recipients who were NOT in the four main Armed Forces branches, so Police, TeNo etc etc weren't listed in the earlier book which I have.

              Check it out!

The image of the DKiS in question is up in the Crosses of the Wehrmacht forum. Rick, your input would be much appreciated.
