    War record

    Hi all,
I have picked up a nice Luftwaffe breadbag strap and would like to know the war record of the original owner if possible.

War record of the original owner? Probably a bit difficult unless you can pry the information out of WASt in Berlin.

But here is the unit indicated below his name:

    Festungs-Flak-Rgt. 32 (v)

Formed 1 July 1938 in St. Wendel/28 km NNW of Zweibrücken as Festungs-Flak-Abt. 32with Abteilungstab (St. Wendel), Stabsbatterie (St. Wendel), 1. schw.Batterie (St. Wendel), 2. schw.Batterie (Idar-Oberstein), 4. le.Batterie (St. Wendel) and 5. le.Batterie (Birkenfeld). No evidence of a 3. Batterie has been found. Re-designated Festungs-Flak-Rgt. 32 on 26 August 1939 in response to the general mobilization plan, probably with the intention of expanded it to a regiment with several Abteilungen. However, the expansion did not occur, but it was referred to in documents during 1940 and 1941 as I./Festungs-Flak-Rgt. 32.
    History:
    1938-39: under Höh.Kdr.d.Festungs-Flak III.
May - Jun 40: participated in the attack on France and the Low Countries with the batteries assigned to different tasks in different locations. For example, 4. leichte Batterie is known to have been in Cherbourg during July 1940 and was still there in January 1941.
Aug 40: Lisieux area in Normandy under Flak-Brig. VII.
Oct 40: reported casualties at Cherbourg due to British air raids.
Jan 41: more casualties at Cherbourg due to British air raids.
3 Mar 41: all or elements including the Stab at Paris-Thiais, a suburb on the south side of the capital just 3 km north of Paris-Orly.
15 Jul 41: re-designated Stab/Flak-Rgt. 69 in Paris and its four batteries becoming 1./Flak-Rgt. 241 in Belorussia, 6./Flak-Rgt. 441 in northern France, 1./Flak-Abt. 89 and 2./Flak-Abt. 89 in the Beaumont le Roger area in Normandy.
    FpNs: Stab (L 30033), 1. Bttr., 2. Bttr., 4. Bttr. (L 33713), 5. Bttr. (L 32308).
    Kommandeur:
    Obstlt. Fritz Grieshammer (1 Jul 38 - 24 Aug 39)
    Obstlt. Paul Pavel (24 Aug 39 - 9 Oct 39)
[Kdr. unknown; some accounts state Grieshammer 10 Oct 39 to 6 May 41, but this does not agree with his personnel records and other documents]
Maj. Herbert Keilhold (acting?) (6 May 41 - May 41)
    Maj.(d.R.) Werner-Lothar Grunow (May 41 - 15 Jul 41)

It appears the fellow was in Cherbourg from Jul 40 to Jul 41.
