Help With Decyphering A Name

Can Anyone Decypher This Name Written In Sutterlin Script? It Is In A Gray Wartime Waffen Ss Officer's Cap. The Second Word Appears To Be Artur. I Presume The First Is His Family Name. If Someone Can Help, Doe S Anyone Have A 1944 Dienstalterliste To Check This Name Against? The Cap Was Made In Graz So The Officer Is Likely An Austrian.

Looks like 'Omla' or 'Omlor'? It's also possible that Artur is a last name, but I can't make anything else out of the name.

Hello Erich,

I read Omlor Artur. Since Omlor is an existing last name and most probably not a first name, I presume it should be Artur Omlor. But unfortunately not on the SS Dienstaltersliste.

P.s. this is not real Sütterlin script.

Hi Bob,

the name must be Omlor becaus this is the only family name existing in the recent German phone book (more than 250 entries).

But there is no Artur Omlor existing today.

Other variations of the family name do not fit.

I have no listing of an SSofficer with that last name, is everyone agreed on the spelling ? I have only 3 men starting with "Om" and none are even close.

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS MAN COULD HAVE BEEN A JUNIOR OFFICER KIA EARLY IN HIS CAREER AND WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN ANY DIENSTALTERLISTE? THE HAT IS IN CONDITION SHOWING LITTLE WEAR.

My list is rather complete from Ustuf to General for Waffen-SS. If he was another branch, or a foreign volunteer from a country other than Austria, might explain my not having him in my priimary files. I have all the promotion and commission lists, don't use DAL as they're inaccurate. Same with SS #, I use the promo lists, books like "The Key" are compiled from an incomplete set of DAL (though I have them all).

The label inside the cap depicts a manufacturer from Graz, Styria, Austria. It can logically be assumed, that the previous owner of the cap bought it locally. Therefore Artur Omlor was most likely a resident of Styria, Austria. At presence, the family name Omlor comes up in the Austrian phone book with only one entry in Vienna. It certainly is a very unusual and unique name.....
