    Infantry-Regiment 102 history...

Does anyone have any history of the 102 Inf-Regt in WWII? Any online links? I have searched Google, and all I get is Winnipeg search for the 102nd - deleted. ??? I'd appreciate any help I could get on the histroy of this unit.

For German units it's best to search using the unit's proper German name

ie. Infanterie Regiment 102 and Grenadier Regiment 102 (remembering that infantry units had their names changed to 'Grenadier' in 1942)

As usual for the bulk of these Heer infantry units almost all of the detailed information available online or published is in German.

Try google again with "Grenadier Regiment 102" and you'll get pretty much all that's available online.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

        Thank you for your help.

I found out that the Gren. Regt. 102 was part of the 24.Infanterie-Division, which was formed in Oct.15th, 1935 in Chemnity, Germany. It fought in Poland (Schlesien) in 1939. The 102nd was then sent to fight in the Western Front in Luxembourg and Maas, France in 1940. The unit was then sent to the Eastern Front from 1941-1945. In the East it fought campaigns in Winniza, Aman, Kiev, Crimea ('42), Leningrad ('42), Pleskan, Polozk and Courland in '44. It saw action in Courland up until the war's end in '45.

There were many KC winners out of it's ranks.

Thanks for the links. I translated it all through AltaVista. Very detailed account of the 102nd Inf-Regt. It looks like the soldiers of the 102nd took very heavy casualties not only in France, but also all the way through Russia. Many KC winners emerged from their ranks.
