    searching an officer artillerie

    Hello guys,

i bought an uniform, and on the interior on the label
there is the name TH. THEISSEN. he was an Oberstleutnant in the
35 artillerie regiment. maybe somebody can help me?
to get more informations about this soldier?
where he was during the war or his regiment?
maybe someone can give me any suggestions about books where i can find some informations?

    hopefully

    and

    greetings

Is that "Theißen" with the "ss" that looks like a "B" ?

I find one artillery Oberstleutnant Theißen alive in May 1944, an Oberstleutnant (S), date of rank 1.4.44 #55, assigned to Kommandantur Stuttgart.

Does the label give his rank? Very often boards are "improved" and don't match a name label.

If this was the correct officer, he was NOT a regular officer in the Imperial army, or in the Reichsheer, so I can't give any other rank dates or awards.

What sort of award loops are on this tunic?

OK, looks like that's your man!

His 1944 is from Wolf Keilig's "Rangliste des Deutschen Heeres 1944/45" from... 1955 which ONLY gives rank dates from major up for regular officers from 1 May 1944 to the end of the war.

I have a variety of Imperial sources, and he doesn't turn up in any of them, which makes me think he was a WW1 Leutnant der Reserve who either went into the Weimar Republic police, or was recalled as a supplementary (E) officer in the 1930s.

Officers on the 1944 (S) list were usually former (E) officers.

I don't have the January 1939 Seniority List for the German Army, but can obtain his rank and assignment as of then for you. Wups! Just heard he's not in THERE, either!

What is the distance in millimeters from the outside of the end ribbon bar loops? that will tell you how many ribbons he had.

The pocket loops are clearly for a SCREWBACK 1914 EK 1, which he later replaced by a normal pinback version-- or vice versa.

The lower loops centered you can tell by a snug fit if for a WW1 Wound Badge or WW2 KVK1X.

Artillery Regiment 35 was in 35th Infantry Divison in Karlsruhe, Baden-- also under Wehrkreis V, Stuttgart.

I checked Baden WW1 Order of the Zähringen Lion award rolls, but not in there either. My only source for wartime Württemberg reserve officers is the "secret" Home Establishment list of April 1917, and he was not back "home" in there then.

Ther IS tons of information out there... but just not on THIS officer! Rick

            thx

            Hi Rick,

the distance between the first loop to the last one is 80mm
from loop to loop there is a distance from 20mm (4 loops there)
thanks so far for your quick answers and the infos.

            thx

That would fit a standard 6 ribbon bar, of 15mm width, to fit snugly.

"Theißen" is a very odd name.

Indeed, in all my GERMAN reference sources I can find no record of anyone with that name:

It may well be that he was an AUSTRIAN-- and THAT might "explain" perhaps why not in the January 1939 Heer list-- still not "assimilated" permanently from the former Austrian forces?...

                Not Austrian

                Afraid not Rick,

I'd already checked out the Austrian angle. Neither k.u.k. army, k.k. Landwehr, k.u. Honvéd or Bundesheer.

                Regards
                Glenn

                  but

                  hi all,

ok, but you agree with me that we can sure say that Mr. Theissen
was an Oberstleutnant in the Wehrmacht in in the 35 infanterie division, because that's the most important question. but where he was...
it's harm that i can't find more informations. but ok.
ohh, Rick what reference books can you recommend for searching
officers or soldiers of the wehrmacht. (the must have books)
                  thanks for the strive.

don't know if my english is correct, i am german, and english is not my best language.

                  thanks
