The Schneefernerhaus is a hut high in the Alpen mountains on top of the Zugspitze.

Thanks very much. I do know the Zugspitze though I didn't realize the writing was "Schneefernerhaus". In the period photo, the man facing the camera and saluting is a Hauptmann d. Sch.. In the modern photo, you can see where they are standing just under the lower deck. Not the best Now and Then comparison, but interesting just the same.
