I got this solid silver dish on eBay a couple of years back for $80.......

....and later traced it back to Oberst (later General) von Hellermann.....who was one of those who won the Ritterkreuz at Stalingrad.

That is very interesting! Did he survive Stalingrad?

Yes. He was one of the last ones flown out. He died in Munich........in the 1970s I think, from memory.

He was far from being one of the last ones flown out. He was transferred to Führerreserve OKH on 11 October 1942... 5 weeks before the Soviets even launched their counteroffensive and almost 4 months before the final German surrender at Stalingrad. He did die in München, on 25 August 1971.

I am not surprised some of his belongings appeared on Ebay because it seems his family didn't care much for them, but that is far better than the fate of his photo albums... they were incinerated!
