    Hello Merdock,

I don't know much, maybe You know this already and need more details, but maybe it is a start:

    According to Lexikon der Wehrmacht

    Infanterie-Regiment 64:

Aufgestellt (founded) am 15. Oktober 1935 in Soest, das I. Bataillon in Hamm und das II. vorläufig in Bielefeld. Das Regiment unterstand (part of) der 16. Infanterie-Division. Nach dem Frankreichfeldzug mußte das Regiment seinen Stab und das II. Bataillon an das Infanterie-Regiment 503 abgeben (staff and 1st Batl. to IR 503 after France). Die Teile wurden ersetzt (substitutes for lost parts). Am 2. August 1940 erfolgte unter Abgabe des III. Bataillons als I./Schützen-Regiment 4 die Umgliederung zum Schützen-Regiment 64 (transformed into Schützen-Regiment 64, 2nd Batl. transferred to S.R. 4 as 1st Batl.).

    16. Infanterie-Division

founded Oktober 1934 in Münster als Kommandant von Münster
    15. Oktober 1935 16. Infanteriedivision
Sommer 1940: Die Division wird geteilt (Division split in two parts). Ein Teil stellt die Kader der 16. Panzerdivision, der andere blieb bei der 16. ID und wurde motorisiert (one part becomes backbone of 16 Pz. Div., rest remains with 16. ID).
    Infanterie-Regiment 64 becomes Schützen-Regiment 64 of the 16. Panzer-Division

SR stands for Schutzen Regiment, in this case SR64.

The 3 would normally stand for the Company number because the the Germans used Roman numerals for there Battailion numbers-thus the 3rd Btn of SR64 would be listed as III/SR64.
