    RK Award Date action?

    Gents,
    I am in need of some help with a caption for my book on Flak. I have a Kinght's Cross award ceremony photo for Wachtmeister Herbert Schneider who received his award on 5 Feb 1944. THe award ceremony took place in the reserve lazarett at Birkenfeld an der Nahe. Considering the delay between action and awarding, does anyone have any ideas what he was doing with 6/Flak Regiment 49 to get the RK? It seems a lot to think he got the RK for shooting down planes. Any thoughts appreciated.

    Hi Marc,hope this helps a bit,last Rank Obwm.
    awarded Ritt as Wm,Geschutzfuhrer and Flakkampf-
    truppfuhrer in 6/Battery/11 Detachment/49th Flak Regt
    18th Flak Div.The actual action for the award was I believe
    the destroying of 25 Soviet tanks in the Raum Bolchow-Orel area
    where on the 21/7/43 was badly wounded and sent to Birkenfeld,
    and I think because of this there was a delay on checking the facts
    before being awarded on the date,it did happen to some recipients
    because of validication of action.
    IC 2nd Class-13/7/41,IC 1st Class-30/4/42,Flakampfabzeichen 25/3/42
    Eastern Front Medal-28/7/42,Erdkampfabzeichen-1/11/42
    Wound Badge Black-30/8/43.On the day of the award a pic of him
    was taken with his Battery Chief Hptm Thamm,Wm Bausch,Wm Ott.
