    2./GR 426 - RK holder

    Hi,

I'm researching an RK holder, Josef Schwabenberger, he was a feldwebel/Oberfeldwebel (2 different sources) with 2./GR 426 and I believe he won his RK on 10th September 1943.

    What unit is 2./GR 426 ???

    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Tom

If I am not mistaken that is the 2nd Company (Battalion would be numbered with a Roman numeral) of the 426 Infantry Regiment - later restructed/renamed (1942) a Grenadier Regiment, hence the GR. This regiment was part of the 126 Division and it looks like the division was on the Eastern Front for it's entire history and took heavy casualties.

It was commanded, twice, by GeneralLeutnant Harry Hoppe, who was a highly decorated, competent and well respected General.

    auf Deutsch:

I do not see that name listed as a RKT on Feldgrau or Ritterkreuztrager websites.

      Hi,

Brilliant info on the unit, thanks. He definately won an RK as well as a German Cross in gold and several other high-up decorations.

I'm researching him from his death card thats in my collection. (along with several others) See my other threads for these.

      Regards Tom
