Hello from a newbie.
My uncle, Hans Roth, was in the Wehrmacht, died in Russia. Thanks to the Bundesarchiv and volksbund.de, I was able to find his units, where he trained, (Kassel), where he died, which was Kokoschkino Russia, and where he is buried (Rshew). He died in Feb of 1942. He was with the 471 Infanterie Reg.
I guess the questions I have are:
Did the Bundesarchive get all of his unit info and dates from his Soldbuch? I would like to go and see it to make a copy. If not, where else did they perhaps get such info?
Would there be anything in Kassel worth going to investigate, such as universities, archives, historical societies, etc?
My mother is dead, I went on what info she remembered. I'd like to find out as much as I can, maybe find some photos of the unit or of him. I don't have any at all! I have his birth certificate also from Frankfurt.
Thanks to anyone with info, I'm really new at German genealogy. I live in North Carolina but want to go back to Germany next year.
