    WAST - Researching Death Cards/Sterbebilder

    Hi All,

Has anyone tried to get info from the WAST about a soldier remembered on a death card/sterbebild? I am curious to know how successful you have been and what type of information the WAST has provided.

I would appreciate any info you have or are willing to share. Feel free to post the death card and the info you got from WAST.

    Many Thanks,

    Pete

    Hiya pete,
I have just had a letter posted from them about an enquiry i made online for information on a lad from the KM service. It seems that they will only give information to family members.
    cheers bill.

      No that isnt true.
you can also get infos, when you are not a family member, its a question how you formulate your request. Normaly the WaSt give you answers when the birth of the person was more than 90 years ago or he is more than 10 years death.
But at the moment they refuse many request because the Story of Günther Grass (you remember his confession, the result were thousends of requests to the WaSt). You need a very good reason for your request ("iam a military collector and i want infos..." is no good reason), then you will get your infos, normaly.
The best is, you write them a letter, in which you describe your request (and when you havent one than find one! ).

I too research KM documents & deathcards. In the last years, this all went down excellent, write the wast and receive an answer within 1/2 a year. Nowadays it indeed seems to take longer, my last letter dates from 8 months ago and I still haven't received an answer..

        Regards,

        Maurice

I too have received information back from WASt regarding Death Cards in my collection. The information you normally get back is Rank history (promotion dates) and career list (posting information). Mine took about 7 months but as other people have said it seems to be taken longer now.

          Cheers

          Scott
