    Oberstleutnant F. W. Burmeister 78 Panzerartillerie Rgt.

Hello: I picked up a nice mid-war officer's field tunic that is stamped to a "F. W. Burmeister". The tunic is tailor made in Furth i/B (Furth in Baden-Wurtemberg not Barvaria) which is interesting because it does not appear to exist anymore and must have been renamed. Anyhow, the boards are for a Lt. Col with the 78th Artillery. He must have been the regimental commander after Gottfried Froelich, putting him with the unit in early 1943.

If anyone has the officers lists or other information I would appreciate the assistance. I looked on the web and could find a Oberst Burmeister as a Panzer Commander but not with the 78th Panzerartillerie.

    Thank you in advance,

    John

      tunic

Froelich was commander of the 78th through early 1943, so this piece must date to after that. I will look for the cross in gold award date. There are no loops for the German cross on this particular tunic. The tunic was taken in and altered a bit and the eagle was resewn after the war but it can be restored and is still all there. If anyone has other information as far as dates of service and awards it would help.

      Thanks again,

      John

Can't be Friedrich Burmeister, he was a general staff officer throughout most of the war and was only promoted oberstleutnant 30.1.45 when with the 12 ID
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
