Help with ID of Heer Generals

I have a few Generals that need a name. I am sure I am in the right place!

First is a Generalmajor and Hauptmann in 1941. The reverse inscription should make this easy for many here.

Last one. Do you think this may be Hoth or Manteuffel? Or am I way off...

              Hello :
picture # 1 with reverse inscription:
Oberst Theodor Kretzschmer ( promoted to Gen.Major with date of rank 1.Aug.1941 after death), KIA 18.Aug.1941 near Saretje/Estonia as commander of I.R.272.
I read the other name as " Bethke" but am somewhat doubtful.

Not v Manteuffel I am afraid. I found this on ebay and posted it at the History Forum but no one has spotted him yet. You can see the Division Sign that kind of looked like a double-C, once appearing on the command car and then on the bus.

                Cheers

Next to Briesen had a passing resemblance to Wilhelm Russwurm, Kmdr of 444 Sich Div which was operating in AOK17 Heeresgebiet in 1941.

                  Cheers

Schmitz Thies "Die Truppenkenzeichen" Band 4 PP 330 has this "OC" or tipped over "A" as division sign of 121 Inf Div.

The two commanders that could fit were Lancelle and Hellmuth Preiss. Personally I think Lancelle had a bigger nose. Preiss had two tours as commander. My money is on Preiss.

                    Cheers

                      Gentlemen! Thank you very much.

Elwyn, I am not so sure. In my picture, it looks like the General has something at his collar (I do not think an RK). I cannot download your picture now - Can you see on your photo if he is wearing an award?

Priess was not an RK holder. Lancelle was awarded his posthumously, but did have the PLM. Lancelle, though was killed in July '41. This photo may be that early, but it looks later to me.

All this, assuming that the car belongs to this General!
Since you have identified the division as the 121st, we know that this is Army Group North. Could it be a Corps Commander or high ranking staff officer from the Army or Army Group on a routine tour of the front?

I am doing a little searching as I write:

121st Infantry Division was part of the II Korps, 16th Army - Army Group North.

General der Infanterie Walter Graf von Brockdorff-Ahlefeldt was commander of the II Korp. There is some resemblence here as well, not enough for me to say 100%, but still a possibility!

                        Hellmuth Priess,
DKiG 12.11.42, RK 07.03.44. he was a thin faced slight man.

                        Cheers

                          OK Elwyn,

I did not see that he had the RK in 1944. You are more likely right than me!

Is there any inscription on the reverse of your photo that would indicate date or place? My photo is blank and is on Agfa-Brovira paper.

                          Thanks Again!

                          Mark

No unfortunately mine was just a download from Ebay. I ran thorugh the entire list of commaders of 121 Div and he was the most likely candidate. And he wore his spange to EKI like the general in the picture. Try Hans Houterman's website for a quick look at Priess.

                            Cheers
