    Oberst Eugen Ott.

    Hello.
Can anybody elucidate me on further service record of Oberst Eugen Ott( 'NOT' German ambassador to Japan!)?

He commanded infanrty regiment 1(Koenigsberg) from 1935-1938. I will appreciate any further information about him.

Thank you for the information gentlemen.

But I'm afraid that the (later) General der Infanterie Eugen Ott, whom you mentioned, is not the person in question.

Oberst Eugen Ott, whose information I'm searching, commanded Infantry regiment Nr.1 from Jan.1. 1935- April 30.1938(from Lexicon der Wehrmacht).

But General der Infanterie Eugen Ott was alredy Generalmajor in 1936, and held different post during 1935-1938.

            Still I'm confused...

            From Axis Biographical research.

            G.d. Infanterie Eugen Ott.

            From 01/Jan. 1935 to 01/Sep. 1939
Inspecteur der Infanterie b. Oberbefehlshaber des Heeres.
and Promoted to Generalmajor 01/Mar. 1936

            and from Lexicon der Wehrmacht

            Oberst Eugen Ott
            Commander of Infantry Regiment. Nr.1
            From 01/Jan 1935 to 30/Apr. 1938

Is it possible that he held both posts(Commander of 1st regiment, and Inspecteur) at the same time? (but the Axis biographical research speaks nothing of his regimental command).

Harmel(or Bernhard), if Eugen Ott did command the 1st regiment, can you please give me the exact timeframe?

            Thanks
            Rhie

              more info

                Gen.d.Inf. Eugen Ott.

Wolf Keilig in "Die Generale des Heeres " gives date from 1.Jan.1935 as commander of I.R. 1 and as Inspekteur d. Infanterie as of 1.May 1938. This last position in my opinion was always filled by a General Officer. His date of rank as Gen.Maj. 1.Mar.1938 would put him into General Officer's rank by that time.
I have one other detailed reference material as to command positions occupied by named officers below division level . This is "Die Dienststellen, Kommandobehoerden und Truppenteile des Heeres 15.Oktober. 1935 - 8.Mai 1945" by Wegmann und Zweng. Oberst Eugen Ott is listed as commander of I.R.1 from 1.January 1935 to be relieved by Oberst Walter Weiss from 1. May 1938 .
                Perhaps this clears the matter.

                  Bernhard,
Thank you very much for your research . Now, everything is clear to me.

So in any case, he did command I.R.1 from 1935-1938, and was Inspecteur der Infanterie in 1938(with the rank of Generalmajor).

Btw, is there any chance to get a copy of the Wegmann title you quoted? I think that book is out of print now.

I thank both of you gentlemen(Bernhard and Harmel)!

                  best regards
                  Rhie

                    Ref. book

                    Hello Rhie:
The book was published by Biblio in 1998. I see two ISBN for some reason(s):
                    -ISBN 3-7648-1779-8;
                    -ISBN 3-7648-2531-6.
This is Volume One . To my knowledge only two volumes have appeared sofar.
                    Vol.One for formations numbered 1 to 10 ;
                    Vol.Two for formations numbered 11 to 30.
These may still be available from/through BIBLIO.
