    100 Jäger Division

    I've got a tunic with a name in it and have been getting some info. The guy was transferred to the 100 Jäger Div in '43 (fortunately for him his old unit was encircled and destroyed shortly after he got out!). I've got the locations the 100 served in, but was wondering if anyone had any better info or anything. Thanks,

    Hi Rich, the first 100th Jager Division was with 6th Army and destroyed at Stalingrad. The second was raised in the Belgrade area May 1943 and was sent to Albania that summer. It joined the II SS Panzer Corp on the Eastern Front in March 1944 and helped rescue the 1st Panzer Army which had been encircled between the Bug and the Dnestr. It was later transferred to Army Group Centre fighting in the withdrawal from Russia and through southern Poland in the autumn of 1944. At the wars end it was fighting the Russians in Czechoslovakia.

      As you can see from the lexikon link there's a divisional history written, as with most divisional histories they're in German, naturally enough, but if you really want to get down to the detailed history of the unit then this is your best bet, other than seeing what divisional records remain in the archives at places like NARA in the states.

        Is that book an actual divisional history, or more of a memior or your regular off the shelf history book? I'm gonna need to work on my Deutsch before I tackle that one, but sounds like that's the next step. Thanks for the info.

          Well it's the history of the division, not an individual's memoirs if that's what you mean.
          Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
