    Info request please!

    Dear All,

I am looking for any and all info on Oblt. Walter Hartig who was awarded the RK on Feb. 2nd 1942 for action in the Belev, USSR area while serving as the CO of 3.Bttr./le.Flak-Abt. 91 (mot) / Flak-Rgt.101 / I.Flak-Korps.

It seems Belev was part of the famous Volkhov battle.

    Any info appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards,

    Albert

Karl-Walter Hartig was promoted to Hptm. in 1942 with an adjusted RDA of 1 Jan 42.

His unit, leichte Flak-Abt. 91 (mot), followed the path: Zakowola/Poland (Jun 41), Konotop (14 Sep 41), Tula area (3 Nov 41), Dedilovo (9 Dec 41), Belev to the east of Orel (2 Feb 42), Karachev (1 Apr 42), etc., etc. If you get a good map, you can plot these. Incidently, this is the central sector of the Eastern Front, not the northern sector.

Thanks a lot! Orel sounds very interesting. Any info to particular battle participations of that unit?

Its main claim to fame occurred on 1 July 1941 when le.Flak-Abt. 91 (mot) was credited with capturing 63 intact Russian aircraft on Bobruisk airfield, of which 39 were fully serviceable. Later in July it supported 3. Panzer-Div. In the Orel area it would have been in the sector of 2. Panzerarmee, so there may be some information it the Pz.AOK 2 Kriegstagebuch und Anlagen that are available to researchers at the Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv in Freiburg im Breisgau.
