Who was this U-Boot Korvetten-Kapitaen?

I just found this dedication in a German book about a WW1 submarine. It is from the commander of a submarine engineering support unit (Baltic Sea Division)...would anyone know what his name is and maybe a little more info on the man or the unit? I cannot decipher his name from the signature...Cheers and thanks for your help. Torsten.

Hi Torsten,

I guess you know the trouble with an autograph, people give it a personal touch.
But I think I could make something out of this zipped Süterlin.
I think it is Georg.
Although Georg is often a first name in German, it is also a quit common surname.
I got loads of death notices named to Georgs.

See below why I think it is Georg.
Take the Süterlin characters, shove them into each other, with a bit of overlap to write it fast and easy, the autograph way...
Sad news is that I did a quick Google and could just find several Korvettenkapitäne with a first name Georg.
But maybe a thourough search will give better results.

Me again.
Some doubts did rise with me, as not one U-boot archive mentions a Korvettenkapitän Georg.
But on the other hand, maybe Georg wasn’t a Korvettenkapitän at all.

I strongly believe that this dedication was a joke after a hell of party from some sailors.
Did you translated the rest of the text?

“After the battle of Marutendorf ( a place near Kiel) he fought hard to win this price on the bowling strip/course, der Bootsmann Genewinkel.”

I think they went to Marutendorf for some R&R, got totally waisted and cried havoc during a (ten pin) bowling tournament.
The first scene of ‘Das Boot’ starts to play before my eyes.

This is for sure the greatest dedication I ever saw!!!

I'm going to make a guess that this is Carl-Siegfried Ritter von Georg if the name is indeed Georg. He was a korvettenkapitän who held a position as gruppenleiter of the gruppe für rüstungsfragen, part of the militärischen amt für kriegsschiffbau und werften.

thank you for your replies...yes, I think the signature could well be Georg...and yes, it is a fun dedication when they had a night out on the bowling alley, but is written more like the guy had won a combat engagement, but I think the signature, rank and position are correct and the commanding officer obviously had a funny bone within him...

I will try and do a bit of research on this Ritter von Georg and try and establish what position he held on 4th November 1941 when the dedication was written...Cheers, Torsten.
