Flak-Regiment 54 der Luftwaffe unit history help

I am seeking a brief unit history of the 54th Flak Regiment of the Luftwaffe - especially with regards to service associated with flak towers (flakturm).

I didn't have much luck finding anything on the net.

    Any information would be appreciated.

I have quite extensive notes on Flakscheinwerfer-Regimentsstab 54, I./Flak-Rgt. 54 and II./Flak-Rgt. 54, but I see not connection to Flaktürme. The Stab operated as Flakgruppe Münster from its formation in Sep 43 to Aug 44 and then was sent to Obersilesien to operate as either Flakgruppe Auschwitz or Flakgruppe Krakau (or perhaps both). On 4 Apr 45 it was in Bückgen, which is in the Dresden-Bautzen area, under 17. Flakdivision.

I./54 was formed c.Aug 42 and served in Augsburg before being shipped to Tunisia in Nov 42 where it was destroyed in May 43. Rebuilt in Nov 43, it was sent to North Russia for 2. Flakdivision, retreated with the German forces during the first half of 1944 and was in Warsaw by 27 Jul 44, now under 23. Flakdivision. In fall 1944 it was transferred to the Central Rhine area and then in late Jan 45 to Küstrin on the Oder. In Apr 45 it was in Fürstenwalde/c.50 km east of Berlin.

II./54 was formed Oct 37 and then disbanded 15 Nov 38. It did not exist during the war.

So, if you see a connection to Flak towers there I truly hope you will let us know! The Flak-Abteilungen used in the towers were always denoted with the (o) suffix after their number, meaning that they were fixed and non-transferable. That terminology does not fit any of the units of Flak-Rgt. 54.

        Guys,

        Thanks for the help.

Going back to my reference books, it appears that I am confused.

Please see that photos of the flak boards. I incorrectly believed that the 'F' was for the flaktower, and that the '54' was for the 54th regiment.

In looking at Uniforms and Insignia of the Luftwaffe, Vol. I, by Davis I see that the 'F' denotes Fortress Anti-Aircraft Artillery personnel. The '54' would then be the wearer's battalion number.

I apologize for the confusion on my part!
