Nice grouping! I assume you're done with Germany during WW2

              Congrats from Mexico!

I agree with John! It is a shame that this kind of doc groupings receive so little attention!
It is the first time in months that I have seen something on the forum again that makes my pulse react. I died nearly of bordom. A real nice goup of a famous LAH soldier.

              Best, Markus

                .

Thanks guys for the positive feedback. I guess it is because it is not under a popular secrion such as Achtung Panzer. I probably should have placed it there.

You should have, but we love you anyway.

Absolutely stunning grouping! My interest in Staudegger stems from the fact that not only was he the first member of the Leibstandarte Tiger company to win the RK, he was also the last RK winner on active service with the s. SS-Pz.Abt. 501. Thanks for showing!

                    Best,
                    Greg

                      Staudegger

Definitely a great group which deserves much more attention.
SS-Oscha Franzl Staudegger was one of the Waffen-SS's and LAH's greatest Tiger-Panzer-Kommandanten who won the Ritterkreuz for personal bravery beyond normal standards.

It would be interesting to read his orig. KC recommendation, probably signed by "Teddy" Wisch as Divisionskommandeur (whose group on the other hand is in my own collection...)

The only negative would be that Franz was considered a little arrogant by some of his comrades and therefore was avoided a little within his unit...

Andre, did the group come with some more personal snapshot photos of Staudegger?

LAH personalities are great to research since there is so much documentation available around them.

                      Saludos,

Andre, congratulations this is one of the best groups I have seen together with a attributed history as well.
Just wondering how will you display this group ?

Look at his birth date - 12.2.23

Wow. He was only 20 when he received his RK.

I have to agree with the others- this is one of the most impressive groupings I have seen posted here in a while. As a document and grouping collector (and Panzer nut ) I appreciate how difficult it is to track down doc and medal groupings of this magnitude; this one is to a Tiger commander who fought valiantly at Kursk with the LSSAH for which he was awarded the Knight’s Cross, went on to serve with the s.SS.Pz.Abt.101 in the Normandy campaign and finally (then 501) in the Ardennes. It simply does not get much better than this, folks.

I would love to hear more about how/where this grouping surfaced. I am going to guess- based on the funeral photographs included - that it came from his family, or a source very close to him.

I definitely agree with John- it's always difficult to take the plunge on the medals when there is even the slightest bit of doubt, especially when you break into 5-digit territory I’m personally not comfortable unless it comes directly from the veteran or their family, and even then you can’t be 100% positive (although you can sleep a bit better at night ). Nothing personal, but it’s very, very hard for me to trust most dealers when they sell doc and medal groupings as original lots unless they have unquestionable provenance (which, in most cases, they don't)

Andre - I trust you did your research and obviously felt comfortable enough to make the purchase. A big "Congrats!" to you my friend!

Enjoy, and thanks so much for sharing.
                              Rob
