I once researched the fate of the American fighter pilot 1st Lt. Adolf Bielok, who crashed in the vicinity of my hometown. Although born in Wisconsin, that name is very similar to a German name. In your example however (also showed by Ian), I believe there is a letter between the 'E' and the 'L', something that I unfortunately can't make out...

      Best of luck,
      Laurens

According to your link there are some holes in the uniform and it could be that Bierholz was a hauptmann. Did some searching with google and found this place were they say BIERHOLZ and BIERHALS are the same. ( http://list.genealogy.net/mailman/ar.../2001-05f.html) suppose the name written is BIERHALS, and suppose he was a hauptmann, then we have this fellow:
                    Zum Gedenken

                    D3440468
                    Nachname: Bierhals
                    Vorname: Fritz Paul Karl
                    Dienstgrad: Hauptmann
                    Geburtsdatum: 16.10.1905
                    Geburtsort: Ziebingen
                    Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 30.01.1943
                    Todesort: Turgurgoj b.Krasnodar

Maybe this can be off any help.

                      Stormfighter and Ypenburg,

Thank you both. I appreciate the additional info here. I am like a babe in the woods, with these names, and reference books. I have been a badge collector for almost 30 years, and never got into the research. Now I am slowly drawn into it, and can use all the help I can get!

                      Best Regards,
