Did a Franz Fredlmeier of the Fallschirmjaeger win the German Cross in Gold?

    Hello,

Would appreciate it if anyone who has information on the German Cross in Gold winners could check on the following:

    Franz Fredlmeier
    Unteroffizier
    Fallschirmjaeger
    23 years old from Piesenkofen
    EK1,EK2, Close Combat Clasp (Silver)
Apparently he was recommended for the German Cross in Gold - but I don't know if it was actually awarded
    KIA 12/13/1944 Westfront

I assume he was killed in the Huertgenwald area as he is buried in Kreuzau/Obermaubach (Germany).

Any information on this young soldier would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards and thanks in advance,

    Pete

Hello Pete and welcome to the forum,

I do not see Fredlmeier listed as a DK winner.

Here he is listed on the German War Graves.

    Nachname: Fredlmeier
    Vorname: Franz
    Dienstgrad: Unteroffizier
    Geburtsdatum: 19.07.1922
    Geburtsort: Piesenkofen
    Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 13.12.1944

Franz Fredlmeier rests in the War Grave Cemetry in Kreuzau-Obermaubach-Schlagstein. Grave location: Row 3 grave 10

This is why I love collecting Death Cards. This should answer your questions...and provides a photo.

      Cheers

Actually this doesn't say he was awarded for the DKiG it says he was submitted (eingereicht) for the DKiG.

Yes - sorry I should have said that. The death card says he was 'recommended' for the DKiG. I have seen this a few times on cards.

            Cheers
