        November 1945???

At any rate there was no division numbered 813 within the wehrmacht.

Any chance of a scan of the page in question?

I'm more familiar with how the German forces in Norway were organised after the surrender. I wonder if he was serving a sentence for something done after the end of the war? Perhaps so given that this was 6 months after the end.

This '813 Div' isn't necessarily a unit that existed pre-8 May.

It says that this is a provisional document for his lost soldbuch, yet you have it? And i note that he's not reffered to or seemingly connected to the ss according to this page?

One for the soldbuch boys i think

Hi Simon , It is just the first and last couple of pages that have been replaced on the soldbuch. The guy was not a prisoner , he was serving in this unit . The soldbuch shows he was issued with a uniform and records his pay from 12.8.45 to3.12.45 . After this he was arrested by the British and interned in the UK 'til his discharge in 1949.
              Regards Steve.

                Hi Steve

Interesting. So little is known about these German military units from 45\47. The GMSA (German mine sweeping administration) is perhaps the best known, it included it's own uniforms and insignia. I've also seen examples of pionier units being kept together and expanded in order to deal with the clear up operations. The fact that he seems to have been issued items in August of '45 does point to some kind of post-surrender formation of sorts.
There's also that UWB.61 and i'd guess that Waldlg. is short for Waldlager or forest camp??

From what you've said it feels like it's the same kind of thing as you so often see with 'Norwegian' paperwork. After the surrender the troops are interned, then are used for clear up operations and various other tasks (in Norway this went on well into 1946) when they were no longer needed they were then shipped back to the continent and went into POW camps in various countries until released.

Hi Simon, thanks for the info . Here is a scan of the page showing the uniform / clothing he was issued with . I've been researching this guy for around 4 years now and cannot find out anything about the immediate post-war period. Maybe that is not surprising considering the desolation in Germany at this time.
                  Kind Regards Steve.
