    Heer Mounted Troops

I have found that the 2nd Mounted Brigade was well documented but, was there a 1st Mounted? And if so, what happened to them? I have found NOTHING on any such unit but it seems that if there is a 2nd surely a 1st exists.

In December 1939, the 1st Kavallerie Brigade was reinforced with the 2nd Mounted Brigade and thus became the 1st Kavallerie DSivision, according to the book "Cavalry of World War 2" by J. Piekalkiewicz.
The 2nd Mounted consisted of the 21st and 22nd Mounted Regiments. The 21st was then disbanded and added to the rest of the division to bring its strength up to that of two infantry battalions.
My question is: was there, in existence, a 1st Mounted Brigade? Or is this author mistaken in that the 2nd Mounted is actually the 2nd Cavalry Brigade mentioned here:http://www.avalanchepress.com/GermanCavalry.php

Reiter Brigade 2 was renamed Reiter Brigade on 1.3.1940, on the 6.6.1940 it was renamed gemischte schnelle brigade Senger, an independent formation before returning to the 1 Kav.Div. on 5.8.1940. On 2.4.1941 the unit was again renamed, this time to Reiter Brigade 1. On the 2.12.1941 it's life as a mounted unit finally ended when it became schützen brigade 24 in the newly formed 24 Panzer Division.

It's commanders throughout it's existence were.

Ob. Fridolin von Senger und Etterlin 1.3.1940
Ob. Karl Frhr von Thüngen 22.05.1940
        Ob. Heinz von Randow 8.3.1941
Ob. Friedrich Frhr von Broich Oct.1941
