    U-boat Korvettenkapitan Rudolf Singule

    Hello Guys ,

    I,m trying to find out what his WW1 carreer was and what awards he was entitled to , here,s what i ,ve dug up off the web so far :

    Linienschiff Leutnant Rudolf Singule

    Born : 8 April 1883 in Pola , Austro - Hungary
    Korvettenkapitan ( 1 Feb , 1942 )
    Died on 2 May , 1945 Brunn ( 62 )


    Ships :

    Commanded UD-4 between 10.41-04.42 trial boat - school boat ( ex - dutch submarine 026 )

    no war patrols , boat scuttled on 3 may 1945

    Awards :

    Iron cross first class sometime in 1915
    Military order of Maria Theresia ( Ritterkreuz )
    No . 194 on 21 Dec 1929

    If any WW1 buffs can tell me what he got up to in WW1 or anything else please let me know , Many thanks !!!!

    Grant,

    Rudolf Singule commanded the Austro-Hungarian submarine U4 in WW1. On the 9th of June 1915 he torpedoed and put out of action for several months the British cruiser HMS Dublin and on the 18h of July 1915 sank the Italian armoured cruiser "Giuseppe Garibaldi" off Gravosa.

    His WW1 Austrian Awards:

    Military Maria Theresia Order Knight's Cross (post war award)
    Knight's Cross of the Order of Leopold with war decoration and swords
    Order of the Iron Crown 3rd Class with war decoration and swords
    Military Merit Cross 3rd Class with war decoration and swords
    Silver Military Merit Medal with war decoration and swords
    Bronze Military Merit Medal with war decoration and swords
    Karl Troop Cross
    Military Jubilee Cross

    Reported as being murdered in Brunn (Brno) on 2nd May 1945

      Per the 1916 Austro-Hungarian Navy Seniority List, he joined the navy 29 June 1901 and made rank of Linienschiffsleutnant (= Kapitänleutnant) 1 May 1911.

        Thanks Rick , i secretly knew you probably would,nt be able to resist that one !

        I have just come into the possesion of an engraved WW1 EK 1 to Rudolf Singule dated 1915 and wanted to know why he got it .

        Is their a website where i can see pictures of WW1 Austrian awards ?

                Grant,

                the award information for Rudolf Singule is taken from the last published naval rank list of the k.u.k. navy - December 1917. His photograph is from General Karl Bardolff's history of the WW1 MMThO winners published in 1944 - "Der Militär-Maria Theresien-Orden , die Auszeichnungen im Weltkrieg 1914-1918".

                ebay.de throws up many of the more normal k.u.k. awards.
