    Feldpost NR 578/378 Inquiry

    Hi there,

Back to work on my ek1 list, I've come across a luftwaffe stamp with nr.578 (or it could be 378!) on it. Year is 10 June 1940

Help on the unit would be appreciated!

It's not an fp number. If you actually read what the stamp says and look at where the doc coms from you'd realise that.
    It's a stamp number.

FYI, FP numbers consist of 5 digits from 00001 upwards and can include one or two letters after the numbers. LW numbers can be preceded by an L and KM numbers by an M.

Thank you Simon. Up till now I've only ever seen single digit stamp numbers. This one certainly is a surprise.

        Hello Jeff
This rubber stamp is the one devoted to "Der Reichsminister der Luftfarht und Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe" (ie the LW CiC) and was usually used onto KC preliminary certificates. I have also encountered it on some few EK1 documents. That is normal since EK1 documents were in theory signed at the division (Heer) / Geschwader (Flying units) level.
There was another rubber stamp bearing the same title with the number 130.
Regarding KC preliminary certificates, the "130" stamp was used from 1940 until the begiining of 1942, then the "578" was used.
I have never been able to know what is the meaning of these 2 codes (maybe just the desigantion of the rubber stamp itself). If my memory serves me, I beleive I have already seen another rubber stamp bearing a third code number.
        Hope this helps
        Regards
        Denis

          Me again
The doc is signed by the head of the LW Personal Office (LPA), Gen.Lt. (later Gen.d.Flieger) Gustav Kastner-Kirdof (DKiS) who comitted suicide on May 4th, 1945.
