anybody knows whats an "einweisung"

hi all
i bought a soldbuch and the soldier was in einweisungs-abteilung (abt) 1096, wich was a trench and fortification construccion unit, active in the west any body knows whats is it and where could i find information about it

someone toldme that this group were in eifel in december then was one of the victorious ones in the Shnee Eifel when the 106th Infantry Division and the attached 14th Cavalry americans were took prisioners as part of the Ardennes battle.
