    Gentlemen,

    I have a document to a Obergefreiten 2./Inf.Regt.379 later Unterroffiser 2./G.R.379.
    Could anyone tell me if he would have been in Norway.

    Hi Paul,according to my info it would be yes,as in March 1945 was part of the 169th Field Trg Division,the Div from 1941 spent most of the time in Lappland,Murmansk, Finland and then NorwayRegards Harmel

        As part of the 169 Infanterie division it came to Finland in June 1941 and spent the next 3 years there as part of the XXXVI Gebirgs Korps in the central part of Finland. In the Autumn of '44 it, along with the rest of the 20 Gebirgs Armee started to retreat out of Finland and into Norway. It then spent a short time there whilst slowly moving Southwards through the country before being moved to the continent. It was not really envisioned that the division would be based in Norway but as it moved through the country, albeit very slowly, then yes, it was in Norway.


        BTW, it was never on the Murmansk front, that was Gebirgs Korps Norwegen\XIX Gebirgs Korps. It was exclusively on the Salla front.
        Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
