    Some info..

    Hi Phil,
here is a little bit of information on the units you requested.

    715th (mot) Medical company.

This unit belonged to the 715th Infantry division. Formed in 1941, it was sent to South Western France on occupational duties.
By 1943 it was in the Cannes-Nice sector of the Mediterranean coast...but it's quiet life was soon to change.
In 1944 it was sent to Italy to the Anzio/Nettuno bridgehead, where it was very heavily engaged, and took a severe mauling as the allies broke out of the bridgehead. The division was then sent to the rear and rebuilt, and went on to fight in the Gothic line battles, and was then transferred to the Adriatic sector of the front.
In 1945, it was sent to the East as part of Army group Centre, 1st Panzer army, 59th Corps. The Division finally surrendered in Czechslovakia.

    299th Infantry Division.

Formed in 1940, the division served in France, and was active in the invasion of the Soviet Union as part of Army group south initially. The division was almost constantly engaged from this point on, and went on to serve with both Army group North and centre (in whose service it fought in the battles of Gomel and Kursk, where it earned a reputation as a first class combat division).
During 1944, the division ran out of luck, when on 22nd June the Soviets launched their massive assault against Army group centre.
The division was in the path of this apocalypse, and was overrun, and destroyed as a fighting formation on the 24th June 1944 near Vitebsk. The division was then however ordered to be reformed, and was duly committed to the front again.
It met it's final end in 1945, where it was destroyed again in the Heiligenbeil pocket. The survivors of this were then used to form the "Schlageter" Infantry divison (RAD Nr1.) comprised mainly of RAD men in a last gasp combat role. The 299th was then finally disbanded and passed into history.

    All the best,
    Patrick.

        Thanks Guys,

I was just wondering if any of the 715 medical company was in the crimea because with the group I have a krim shield document. Could part of the company have been deployed in Russia in 1941/42?

        Regards
        Phil
