GJR 756 (334. ID) was formed in Wehrkreis XVIII (Salzburg) as part of the "Kriemhilde" mobilization wave on 9 November 1942. The regimental staff was drawn from Gebirgsjaeger-Ersatz-Regiment 136 (Innsbruck), the regiment's three battalions from various mountain infantry formations in the Wehrkreis. Replacement unit was Gebirgsjaeger-Ersatz-Regiment 138 (Marburg/Drau). Each of the regiment's three battalions had two mountain infantry companies, an MG company, and a heavy weapons company. The 13. Kompanie was an antitank company. GJR 756 was the only mountain infantry regiment deployed to North Africa. (Source: Tessin series)
    Hope this helps -

        Hi Stefan,

I have a Wehrpass of a soldier that served as a coast unit first and was transfered to this GJ unit. If I remember correctly he was killed in Afrika. I'll try to dig it up ...

        MfG,
        Bart
