Help looking for a possible pre-war SS member and Dachau guard

Whilst doing some research i came over a statement by a soldier in a gebirgs artillerie unit stating that his battery commander was a fanatical nazi, pre-war member of the SS and camp guard at Dachau. I'm uncertain whether the statement is true however and wondered if this Hauptmann's membership of the SS or NSDAP could be verified?

His name is Walter Sornberger born 10.May.1917, I believe he joined up at the outbreak of war, perhaps earlier, with the 1 Gebirgs Division and was commissioned early 1941.

He doesn't appear in The Camp Men, so presumably was not an officer in the Camp.
