    Oberst Büchers - IR. 13

Hello, all - I am working on putting a face with a tunic - in this case, an Oberst Büchers, from IR. 13. He was an Oberst in 1938 when his tunic was tailored for him, but I don't know if he made it into WWII. Does anyone have any Reichswehr or Imperial rangelisten that he may show up on? Looking for any data, but particularly awards.

As always, thanks for any assistance.

    Hi Don

No officer of that name appears in the '44 rangliste and no officer by that name is listed as commander of that regiment in "Dienststellen Kommandobehörden und Truppenteile des Heeres"
Scheibert's book on DKiG winners draws a blank as does RK winner lists.
I also checked the Volksbund wargrave database and only 1 soldier with that surname appears, an unteroffizier.

Mike Miller's ABR website shows no officer of general rank with that name
However, there is an officer who seems to be rather close to what you're looking for. Generalmajor Wolfgang Bucher, he was on the divisional staff of the 25 ID in 1936 as a Major and IR 13 belonged to that division pre-war. It's a tenuous link i know but i'm afraid it's the closest i can get, but then again i don't have any Imperial period sources.

      Thanks, Simon -

That was very helpful. I could not find Büchers in the RK or DK lists either. I was wondering if he could have already been retired by '38 - the tunic is a piped job and maybe he had it made to wear a.D. I'll try to post some scans of the tunic and the tailor's tag tonight.

I think i know the man to ask. Could well be an old boy who retired.

              I Can't Read!!!!

Well, a much wiser man than I has solved the riddle - the name was not Büchers, but Büchert - Julius Büchert was a career officer who made it to Oberst and Kommandant of Mannheim in 1938-1939. Something then must have happened, perhaps wounded severely, but he was still an Oberst in May 1944 - still alive, but he never made general, which he should have done by 1942. He was also moved from the (T) list to the (S) list, which makes me believe he may have been wounded/injured/ill either pre-war or in Poland . I'll post some scans of the entire tunic in the Uniforms display section.
