Are Otto Carius and Will Fey still alive?

    Hi all-

Just wondering if either of these two former Panzer commanders were still with us. If so, is there any way to contact them?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob.

Not sure about Carius but as far as I am aware he is still living. Fey died 29.04.2002

        Etienne B.,

Thanks for the info. Can you please email/PM me with Carrius's contact info? I am very interested in getting something signed by him.

        Thanks so much,
        Rob.

I dont think its very respectfull to give his adres to anyone who sends a PM. I have his adres and dont give it to someone because this man deserves his rest. I never have written him because of this! Remember he is an old man right now!

                  Just my 2 cents!

There are two sides to that. I understand your position. However, his wife is gone (as I hear), he may appreciate the idea that people write to him even to this day. I visited him once while his wife was still alive. Very nice visit. Let Carius decide for himself if he chooses to answer.

Old tanker never die, they only fade away

The „National-Zeitung“ is a German weekly newspaper from the far right spectrum, not worth to be mentioned in detail here. Somehow I got my hands on issue no. 49 from 2004, which does include a clip about Carius, as part of a documentation about “Germanys Greatest Soldiers”.<O
It does include the usual information about the career and awards won by Carius and the signed photo in white uniform. The final sentence of the article:
"This great German Soldier died in 1996 in Herschweiler-Petersheim”. Kind of funny if he was interviewed in 1998 by the Japanese Magazin or even later.

In regards to writing to Mr. Carius. I wrote him sometime last year, and he was very kind in his response. Based on the letter that he wrote me and from the other people that I have spoken with, Herr Carius enjoys hearing from young people who are interested in his service, and he also appreciated the fact that I included money for return postage. I encourage anyone to write to WWII veterans as long as you are gracious in your letter and you are not demanding in your request... and always provide them with return postage.

I also wrote to Mr Carius and received a response with a signed photograph. His book 'Tigers in the Mud' is very interesting.
