Luftland Geschwader 2 info please

Hello,
I have been told the German dog tag I own belongs to the Stabs Staffel of Luftlande Geschwader 2. Could someone point me in the direction of information about this unit. Also what type of person would belong to this unit ? Any information welcome.

The tag can be seen on the FJ forum under the "Beltring 2005 FJ report" thread.
From what I can make out it was a glider unit using Go242 gliders. Can you tell me any more about the type of person who would be in such a unit ? Where they just Luftwaffe pilots or trained FJ pilots ?

LLG 2 - Go 242

Hi Ade,


Will have a look at the tag .

The persons attached towards a glider unit could be almost anything, it was a regular Luftwaffe transporting unit but instead of motorized machines (such as Ju 52, He 111) they did fly in either the DFS230, Go 242 or a Me 321

In general you can say that persons would either be :

* Pilot
* Glider pilot
* Bordmechanic
* Ground personel (to keep the machines in good condition)
* Staff personal

So your person was one of these i assume. Offcoarse as at this time no enlistment roles have surfaced, etc ... it will be impossible to find out the name behind the tag.

I personally would not say, just Luftwffe pilots, but i am 100 % certain that no FJ did belong directly towards the LLG 2 (these persons do belong in para units, not Glider units)

it is true however that sometimes FJ troops where transported with for example Go 242's (i think on Sicily, etc ... ) but that was the only time these guys did enter such planes.

The tag is for a member of the HQ unit (Stabs Staffel ).

Thank you for posting it, he could also be one of the mentioned types of persons, the fact that was with the Stabsstaffel does not mean that he was behind a desk in this case.

For example it is known that when the unit was created that there where 4 Sanitäts Go's attached towards the Stabsstaffel. So tehse would need a pilot, bordmechanic, etc ...
