German Units at Salerno

Hello,

I am trying to do some research for my grandfather. He was a Royal Engineer and he landed as part of the third beach group on Salerno. He is wanting to know, after all these years what German or Italian Units he faced at Salerno. He was only there for about 10 days before he was wounded. Any information would be greatly appriciated. I too would be curious, because my late father was in Italy via salerno, with 5th army engineers. He made it to the arno river, before being wounded.

Units at Salerno

Hello,

Thanks for the Information. I don't speak German so I didn't understand those sites but the other two were of great help. So from what I read it was the 16th Pzr Div that tried to counter the landings at Salerno. My Grandfather was part of the 56th Div coming from Tripoli. Were there any Italian Units that were in the vicinity. I know that they had just surrendered but my Grandfather said they were still getting alot of them surrendering.
