    Tilgner FF (Kurt)

I am looking to trace combat information of my Opa. He served with the German Army, and in fact was seving as gunner under the Weimer Republic at first. He joined in 1928 and was in service until captured in May of 1945 by the Soviets. He entered into combat against Poland, then France. He and his unit were sent into Russia in 1941.
He entered the East as a Capt. and was a Battery Comander with 21cm guns. I belive he finshed the war as a Col.
My family lived in Dresden, and all survived the bombing of Feb 45. He rejoined with them in 1946. We came to Canada in 1952.
Any help on his unit number, Army Group ( Eastern Front) would be of great help.

    Kindest Regards
    Nicholas Tilgner

    Welcome Nicholas,
Have you tried tracing your Opa through the following agency?

    http://www.com-de.pair.com/wast/

They will give you units, promotions, possibly awards! From there with his units we can trace his areas of operation.

    Regards, Ian

I have only found reference to one Tilgner in my rank lists (no forename unfortunately):

1.9.1939 Hauptmann (Captain) with 2 Kp., Grenzinfanterie Regiment 121 in Tiborlager.
1.1.1943 Oberstleutnant i.G (Lieutenant Colonel in General Staff) with Grenadier Regiment 121 (peace time unit?).

In the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold (German Cross) lists there are 4, 2 of which are officers:

Hauptmann Kurt Tilgner DK 20.1.1945 Artillerie Rgt. 359 ?
      -"- d.R. Walter Tilgner DK 14.4.1943 Grenadier Rgt. 360

Also there was an Oberstleutnant Hans Tilgner (perhaps that of Rgt. 121 above?) who served as Ia from March 1941 until April 1944 with 214 Infanterie Division.

      /Ian
