    unit STAMMROLLEN numbers ?

Hello, I think every unit was assigned a stammrollen number. Was this in addition to their feldpost number ?
Are there any resources out there that enable the identification of units through their STAMMROLLEN number.

The stammrollen number I am trying to trace is 39599/41
Can anyone identify the unit asssociated with this number ?

Thank you kindly for any help.

There were two types of Stammrollen number:

Truppenstammrollen nummer - Tr.St.Nr. (Tr.St.R.Nr.) - Ersatz unit roster number
Kriegsstammrollen nummer - Kr.St.Nr. (Kr.St.R.Nr.) - Field unit roster number.

These were the numbers of the individual entered on the roster sheet for that unit. They had nothing to do with Feldpost numbers.
If the unit roster number still exists then I would imagine it would be easy to find out who it belonged to....however how many of these rosters are still in existance!? Without these rosters it would be impossible to trace the unit.

Yours shows the individual had the number 39599 from the year 1941.

When the person transferred to another unit he was erased from the list and the number was not allocated to anyone else.

Any updates to personal records were actually done on the associated document. For field units Kriegstammrollenblatt and replacement units Truppenstammrollenblatt. I do have examples of these somewhere and other related documents.......

What do you actually have with this number on?

      Hi,

The Stammrollennummer was an individual's roll number, not something that identified a specific unit. The Heer, Luftwaffe and Waffen-SS had individual unit rolls (so every single unit would have a '1', for example), and the Kriegsmarine had only a couple of central rolls- the numbers you asked about, 39599/41, are what one might find on a Kriegsmarine identity disc- is that where you found them? If so, the 39599 is the soldiers personal serial number, and 41 is the year he entered service. It's not really possible to identify the unit from a soldier's serial number without the proper central personnel roll- and then only if that soldier's service record can be found.

      Matt
