    St Nazaire pocket

Does anyone know about this little pocket on the West Coast of France held by the Germans from August 1944 until May 1945 and why nothing was done by the Allies to take it. The area was surrendered by a General Junck on 11th May 1945 and it just seems odd to me that it was allowed to exist for so long.

Hi Peter, I think it was just a case of the port was not required and was for the most part of time in the Allied rear and was not a threat. It would have been costly in men to take, so it was simply easier to surround it and sarve them out in the long run. Much like many other of the French ports, Lorient, Dunkirk, etc.

    Cheers, Ade.
