Looking for the records of Kurt Hugo Maier, born 29/12/1906 in Schwenningen and killed in Paris 23 of july 1944.

Ok. I found out he is a grenadier. So wich unit could be in Paris that day with a 38 years old soldier on duty..?
HELP?

Why your interest in this particular soldier?

a private at that age is a little unusual. Unless you have further information he could have belonged to a unit that wasn't even in Paris, ie. he was transiting through. Execution is another possibility.

Any particular events that happened in the Paris area that day?

On that day, a young french resistant girl , 19yo, shot him twice in the head before getting caught by gestapo. She just picked him randomly. That was already a feeling of getting rid of the germans, before the paris insurrection that started on the 17th of august..

Yes exactly.
Just that everything as been written, like she killed a SS or high rank officer... As long as we don't find his career, we'll never know. And i have the french record and it's not mentioned..
So i think only a german report would tell us or finding his career is another.

Hi,

Simon implies that for a lot of partisan/Allied force attacks, "dozen if not hundred of high-ranking SS were killed", as "dozen of Tiger tanks destroyed".
All guerrillas/armies in the world, in the stress of the combat, are used to overestimate (more or less grossly) their "victories/body count".

Here, the young communist girl killed a poor chap, not a high-ranking SS.
