MG-Bataillon "Feldmarschall Kesselring"

I found this note late war on the soldbuch of a young gebirgsjager of the GJR 296 .... the promotion to Gefreiter signed by the MG-Btl. Feldm.Kesselring : the soldier was here for a course? (the soldier has a Browning pistol assigned so probably was a machine gunner). I have found some info here, but it is not clear to me, thank you.
