U boat Captain group/LW Observer badge

My only other LW badge is this one, part of a U-Boat captain grouping. I like these groups, the center photo is of his wedding day showing the same decorations/awards on his uniform.

He is also the officer on the far left (viewing the photo) at a little reception in a U boat. He survived the war.

Very nice! Naval observers who flew with the Kuestenfliegergruppen did so on a three year arrangement and then went back to the Kriegsmarine or transferred to the Luftwaffe. Several went to the U-Boat service with which they had cooperated previously. These guys typically took to the air from the mid to late 1930s so would have had early Observer badges as does your man.

Nice badge and relatively rare historical background to it too. Good to hear your man survived - few did survive both the Kuestenfliegergruppen and U-Boat service.

Do you know his name and when he commissioned? I have the year book for those who commissioned in 1935 so he might be in there. I have a grouping to another naval observer from 'Crew 35'. PM me if you would like me to check.

Thanks. I like these little groups that include a combat badge. I do not have many, even with KM combat badges, but I have a few.

While not connected to this group or combat badges, this is a tally that sailors would have worn if they were working with aircraft. John
