Man that auction house is the worst ever with a huge pile of fakes in every auction.
I did see the Druschel pokal as well. At first i was a bit suspicious knowing the notorious reputation of the auction house but the goblet looks like a wonderful original! Sad that you missed it! Life goes on man

It's weird- I actually feel depressed about it.

I "buff" the auctions for years and have NEVER gotten a great piece nor a bargain price- NEVER. Finally I found something that was original and probably will never happen again in my lifetime.

Funny how little things like that can impact you. I have had cancer a couple of times and near scrapes with death and was cool with that. This, on the other hand, bums me out. Human behavior is odd.

PS- yes- that auction house does blow. Nearly everything they had was a fake of some sort. Funny how a gem can appear in a dung heap.

I missed out on several great items as well in the past. Two original ss visor caps sold before my nose for 1200€. One white summer and one allgemeine ss in splendid condition. The deal of a lifetime. There are some other nice things i missed as well that i really wanted for my collection. Before it made me crazy and i could think a long time of the missed opportunity. Now i can accept it and just move on. You win, you loose.
I do agree the pokal went for a great price, but if you were a serious contender for the buyer the price might have been doubled. Nobody can tell that afterwards.
Be grateful your still alive and admire the wonderful groups you shared with us in the past

I must not be a wuss and move along, as it is, after all, quite a small thing.

Sadly, I planned on selling it to Chen (on this site here) for the same price I paid for it, as I know he would appreciate it the most of any of us. I don't even know the guy, but that seems to be his quest and it would be nice to see a goal realized. So my motives were not self serving at all, but I really wanted to personally take a gander at the damn thing before shipping it off. The guy seems to have been looking for such a goblet forever and that is his thing.

I have a few pokals to fighter aces, so "my plate is full" in that regard (I really don't want to own a swords winner goblet myself). It's just a damn shame that piece will probably be out of public view forever now. The auction asked if I wanted to make an offer to the guy who won it. I guess anyone who was smart enough to recognize the piece for what it was would not want to let it go. It's just the same feeling of losing a sporting event in highschool when you were damn sure you were going to win.

What goes around comes around. I have found things for people and sold them for the same price I paid. In some instances, they keep an eye out for you and return the favor.

Still a chance: if you tell the auction house to ask the winner to contact me (I do not mind to pay the winner a profit) and if I successfully buy it, I will pay you a middle-man profit too!

I feel better now. I was bummed out; my wife took me out for crawdad etouffe and gator tails last night, so I feel better. When my computer went down, I felt as though I was kicked in the nuts.

He paid $8200, so I hope he doesn't "skin" you.

I know you have been looking for one forever and think that such a goblet is best in your collection. I like ehrenpokals, but not as much as you.

Well, it all depends on how much profit he wants.
At the end, it is just " You want to sell and I want to buy" game.
The price is just a figure both sides feel happy to accept. Once the deal is done, there will be no any regret/complaint in future from any parties.

Splendid- I hope he treats you well with it, as I am sure he will make a good profit from the purchase. One hopes that profit is not excessive.

The good thing is that you will post detailed images so all can see. I had hoped to see it in hand and take some good shots, but it sounds like the photo bit is going to happen anyway, so I am no longer bummed about the situation.

The guy must visit or be on this site and must have seen my post. Again, at least the ultimate goal is realized. I actually felt pretty bad about the whole situation at first, particularly as I was prepared to go to pretty high prices. If Chen didn't want it for the price I paid, I would have just kept it and perhaps traded for something in the future.

I was told that this Goblet was sold in the #32 Thies auction back in 2007. I do not have the catalog or know the outcome of that auction, but perhaps someone can enlighten us.

I watched the auction live and when it stopped at $8,200, I thought don’t tell me that this is the hamer price, but it was. Before I looked at Michael Everett his Goblet value list from 2013 and thought it would bring at least $15,000, but maybe it will even double that price.

I always thought that at a public auction, like this one, lots would sell at the current market value. As it looks like that besides blind pew and Chen nobody was willing to spend more or everybody was expecting an higher outcome and wasn’t prepared to bid.

If I remember correctly you (blind pew) tried to sell a Alpaka Oakleaves recipient Goblet on WAF and it also did not reach the above price in the value list by far.

$8,200 may be a steal for this Goblet, but it is still a lot of money that not everybody is able to spend. So the number of bidders is limited for high end stuff. Congratulations to the new owner and maybe it is time for an update of the above list before the next Swords Goblet come on the market.

The oaks goblet I sold was absurd. I would have offers of $3-$4K for a 835 silver oaks goblet.

Eventually it was "sold" for a trade for a cased Juncker RK, which I thought was okay.

However, I believe I went down to $6K cash for the oaks goblet and there were no takers at all. I do think that the market for goblets has always been incredibly soft and we can see that with pokals sitting on dealers sites for years.

That is the problem with high end pieces. You are suddenly appealing to a very, very small set of people in the world for very high priced items. One sees this as well with PLM groups- Imperial is not as "popular" as third reich items and you can see nice imperial groupings languishing for years. Aviation items move quicker, but if the prices are very high, even they can sit for a while.

I guess we will see how much Chen has to fork over; perhaps the seller will be "stuck with it" if he demands too high of a price.

I was interested in bidding.
Whilst the cup genuine and the name engraving looked good from the pics on their auction. I decided not to bid as my request to be supplied with detailed pics went unanswered and they do sell alot of bad stuff. After Seb's recent experience I decided to be safe then sorry' especially after reading their terms and conditions. Hammer price 8200 plus 20 percent commission.
Yes I may have missed a great cup. But I can live with that.

I have checked the mentioned Thies catalog but didn't find the Pokal in there. The 3 formal Mappes -RK, EL & Schw- were in it as well as the Soldbuch and some congratulation telegrams.
