    GWL Para for Review

Came across this today and almost purchased, but had some suspicions that it might be cast fake (specifically referring to what appears to be a casting blemish on the left side of the wreath just above the wing, visible in the photo 2nd from the bottom). Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated!

Good worn GWL with typical crack of the wreath near the rivet. Zink wreath and tombak eagle.

Yes an original GWL badge for me as well.
It does look to be treated with some kind of polish product as it looks very unnatural.
On the backside of the bird you can see that somebody erased an inscription, most likely the name of the soldier who did not want to be associated with the nazi regime after the war.
If the price is very low you could give it a try, but there are better examples on the market as many badges of this type are in mint condition.

Yes, likely a clear lacquer coating was applied as it's way too glossy. Better be really cheap to go for it as these come up in excellent condition as also mentioned.

Yes, an original GWL for me as well, but check the catch as it appears it might be repaired right at the base, seems like a blob of solder or something which is odd because its is cast integral to the badge.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

The price was right so I picked it up and took some proper photos. It appears noticeably less shiny than the earlier photos (thank god). Jelle, I agree with your earlier comment - someone appears to have written something starting with "ST" (I can't make out the rest), and then worked very hard to scratch it out.
