Initial thoughts... I have a lot of apprehension about this badge. I believe I see an 800 mark, which would make this badge extremely rare, and valuable. I am not sure if the silver struck Heer paras should have the beard under the eagle's beak. Also, for a silver struck badge, the hinge looks 'cheap'. Often, the 800 marked badges had a second 'locking type' catch, so you wouldn't lose your costly piece. If the badge was engraved on the reverse, the gilting should not be in the recesses. After all, the engraving was done post gilting. The hinge and catch are both on 'plates', giving the appearance of 'zinker' base metal badge. Think about it.... a silver eagle on a zinc wreath??? Hard for me to believe.

      I might be wrong, but...

      Good luck,
      Mark

I´ll second that! It´s a copy, which is not even close to an original (features and gravure).

Don't know much about this type of badge, but I don't like it either. The wreath definitely looks like a casting and possibly the eagle as well. I don't like the hinge, pin or catch. Base metal looks bad as well. As Mark mentioned, a real badge of this type is extremely rare and valuable. An original would be of the highest quality and the badge posted is lacking in overall quality. Definitely not for me.
              Best regards! Tom

There are only a few accepted original designs (construction) of these army paras. I believe there are three correct patterns--somebody correct me if I am wrong about there being three patterns...and if the badge does not match one of these accepted designs then you have to be doubtfull.
