    Bomber Squadron Clasp-for review

I would like to get your opinion about originality of this Bomber Squadron Clasp in Bronze. Bombe in the medallion seems to be made of tombac and is black painted. Is it a "Red Flag" for the clasp? Pin, hinge and catch are not magnetic.
Thank you in advance for your comments.

Very nice FLL clasp. The bomb look repainted to me and you see black on the swastika's top arm as well...

        Hi Klaus,

A good clasp for me as well, and very uncommon to find in the Bronze grade, typically these are found in Gold.

Good eye on the bomb being repainted Seb, I completely agree.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thank you very much, Tom, for your comment. Now, I have two questions related to this clasp:
          1. Is it reasonable to remove the black paint from the bombe with acetone, or to keep the clasp as is?
          2. Does this clasp match the standard blue case, as the one shown below?

1- yes I would consider it specially its a hard grade FLL to get.
2- gold grade are find in carton boxes but I never saw amy other grade carton box. Beeing said, it will definately fit that case.

              Hi Klaus,

The case you have is a very generic case, made for several makers of the bomber clasps, and almost all makers are found in them so its really impossible to say for sure if it is a 100% match. It will fit that case as Seb says, but not guarantee it was always in there.

As for the bomb refinish, I would indeed try to remove it with acetone, who knows there may be some original blued finish underneath intact. This maker did not use such a thick, glossy black finish on their bombs so this really stands out as incorrect and refinished.

Here is the result of my first attempt. I made two photos in different light conditions. There are still small traces of the paint. Probably, I will clean rest of it.

                        Thanks SEB !!!
I was lucky, paint reacted on acetone.

Use some gun blue liquid to get nearer to the original colour. It won't be perfect but will look better

Thanks for good suggestion. Clasp definitely would look better. I am only afraid that any experienced collector will immediately recognize the later applied modern product.
