Comments on this Alu Junker Pilot please

    Hi all,

I,d like to hear any comments on this ALUMINUM Pilots badge from Junkers.
I´ve showed it to Lorenzo already and he very kindly studied it and compared it to the one in his possession.
Facit: This is a second patten Pilots badge and not the first pattern, which it should really be.
Sorry about the quality of the maker mark scan, but it does´nt go any better.

        Skip,

If you can get better images of all aspects of the badge + weight in grams + wreath height (in mm)+ wreath width + eagle wingspan + swastika diagonal + hinge width + length from hinge to catch (on the outside), by at the latest Wednesday of next week, I will feature it in the Christmas Military Advisor Pilot Badge article.

          Hi Skip,

Are those dark circles on the obverse of the eagle (obverse right wing in particular) the rivets? Although the rest of the badge looks OK from the not very good images, the dark circles strike me as strange - something I have not seen before on genuine and unrepaired Juncker LW badges (aluminium or otherwise).

Hi Mike, the dark cicles are indeed the rivets.
Yuri, the badge does´nt belong to me (yet), so although I got permission to post the pics here I do not think the ownwr would allow them in a mag.I will however ask for measurements and weights.

              interesting

Hi Skip, interesting badge. I have not seen very many of the early, aluminum badges yet. If you get it, please post up some better pix. Thanks!

I have to say I don't like the way the rivets are showing up on the front. I have seen a few Aluminium pilot's badges and none had this feature, but then as this is the late pattern badge, maybe that's the reason but it doesn't seem right to me.

                  Hi,
Most likely the eagle got some new rivets, aluminium is always repaired like this, drilling holes through the wings and flatten the rivets front and back, the catch is repaired a similar way.
These were very weak badges and my meaning is that they were mostly used to visit the bar (on the white tunic ),however some Flyers used these in battle and see here the result.

I have seen very few aluminum Pilot and/or Pilot Observer badges by Juncker. What I have seen were all 1st pattern badges. This is the first 2nd pattern badge I have ever seen and I am surprized that these badges were made in both 1st and 2nd pattern, given their rarity.

Her are the measurements, hope these help a bit to determine the originality,

Wreath height 52,9mm Width 41,7 mm
Eagle height approx* 40,5 mm - *( eagle is convex and difficult to measure)
                      Eagle width 65,9 mm ,
                      Hinge width 14,6 mm ,
Swaz across from point to point 16,05 mm
                      weight approx.13 gramm ,

Thanks for all the replys so far, I take it that most think it is good but repaired.
