    Fake Osang Para badge

    Hi guys,

Wanted to show this good fake of an Osang Para badge that came across my desk this morning. Nicely made with good detail, however the look of the base metal is not like zinc but rather more of a modern alloy. Especially the eagle, which looks more like a white-metal underneath the gold finish. The reverse holds more clues to it being fake, the incorrect reverse hardware (non magnetic and thinner catch than original Osangs) is the first red flag. Also the rivets are quite different than originals. All in all a decent fake but if you know what originals look like you will not be fooled by this one.

That is good but so new and bright, that is a red flag in itself.

Sad the lengths people will go to just to make a $, why not put that effort into something more positive?

Thanks Tom, there are still people with a lot of knowledge. However, I am afraid that with the passing of time it may be more and more difficult

            Hi Tom,

Thanks for sharing, at first glance this is a very good fake. They have even gone to the trouble of wearing the high spots on the obverse.

Every badge needs close scrutiny as these fakers are getting quite good!

Very good eye Jan, and exactly right, its the same type of fake.

These fakes are cast from an original badge that sometimes has flaws like this, so all the fakes will have similar flaws, and is often a good way to spot these fakes. For this reason, it is just as important to have a good database of fakes in your files alongside your typical database of originals.
