Glider Badge - In Poor Shape

Gents, I am looking at this Glider badge which unfortunately comes in two pieces. First question, is it genuine? Second question - is there anything I can do to bring it back to collectible condition? Any help greatly appreciated Thanks Rich

Its a good Juncker in zinc, Collectible its up to you I would personally put them together and it could be a good display piece.

May not be perfect or bring top dollar but I think it is still collectible. Original badges will always be collectible, no matter what the condition. It just depends on the level of the collector.

I like it, just wonder how it ended up in that condition...

They can be rejoined so they look good for display.

Here is one that I got where some old collector had removed the pin & hook. He stuck it to a board in his basement then painted the whole thing i.e. board and badges with shellac.

The dealer who bought the board removed all the badges but the Juncker glider badge snapped into pieces as he tried to remove it. The wartime monkey metal that the wreaths are made from becomes very brittle over time, so do not drop an original on a hard floor because it will shatter. He had it for a long time in a draw and did not know what to do with it. I asked how much he wanted and we agreed on $35.

I then set to, to put it back together. It took a whole day to get the shellac off. Man that stuff is tough and hard to remove without scratching the badge. I then had to use two different types of glue. One invisible glue to hold the pieces of wreath together. And a another type of glue to hold the metal plates on the back which stops the badge from re-bending and snapping the glued wreath.

It was a labor of love but where do you get and original Juncker glider badge missing the pin, hinge and hook for $35 these days ?

p.s. the images show the badge in pieces how I got and then the badge as it looks now put back together. The lighting in the put back together image is making the badge look a bit duller than it does in daylight. The eagle is that nice Juncker steel-grey colour on a toned zinc wreath

It is interesting that the badge which started this thread is snapped in the same two places as the badge I repaired.

These must be inherent weak points in the wreath.

Sadly mine snapped in even more places,
